  1. Height map baker

    Currently a height map baker is not supported in Substance Painter because they figure it has little to no use. I disagree.

    Using a height map in combination with advanced particle brushes and mask generators can enable some advanced effects. One use case is curvature map directional extension, enabling more accurate dust accumulation in wide indents.

  2. Lasso tool for masking and creating selections for us while painting.

    I texture a lot of hard-surface items and the only way for me to get perfectly straight lines and consistent edges is to clean things up in 2D(which means relying on good UVs, which isn't always the case).

    Having a lasso tool where you can toggle between soft and hard-lasso would be great, and even the most super basic marquee-tool as rectangle and round would be of help.

  3. Ability to draw splines on model

    Similar to 3d spline paint tool in 3d coat but do something even better.

    In its most basic form these splines can then be used as vector masks, that can be stroked to create lines or filled to create specific shapes

    They can even be used as path for creating effects like stitches zipper in a non-destructive editable way and can be moved around on the model to position perfectly.

    This can even be enhanced further by allowing us to save preset shapes that can be projected on to a model and further edited.

  6. OCIO LUT support for viewport

    it would be nice if Substance Products would have OpenColor IO color management support. Beeing able to judge your textures against a specific LUT would be really helpful

  7. Duplicate/move a mask frow a layer to another

    It would be great to be able to move a mask or duplicate it from a layer (or folder) to another, like in Photoshop. For example if I create a layer with a mask and then I want to add another layer that applies on the same areas.

  8. Reload mesh button.

    It would be nice to have a dedicated (plugin like) button that can reload project mesh on the fly. So that whenever I make changes to the mesh reloading the project mesh would be more convinient.

  10. Color spray or color dynamics

    I would love the ability to vary colour when painting with a brush (or just value if painting in a grayscale channel). See the "Colour Dynamics" tab in photoshop or "Color Spray" zbrush as an example.

    I really feel this feature is absolutely necessary, as I'm sure anyone who has ever textured in Photoshop or Zbrush would tell you, this is used all the time.

    Controls to vary the hue, saturation, brightness etc when painting would be a great feature and really improve the painting ability of this program. Painter is good with masks and filters but I really feel…

  11. Plugins in a custom location

    Ability to put plugins in a custom location.

    It would be incredibly useful for people using source control (like P4), to have the ability to put plugins in a custom location, so they can share it across workspaces. Right now, the problem can be solved with symbolic links, but that's messy and creates a whole mess of potential issues that could be circumvented if the shared location could be referenced directly.

  12. Scale smart materials

    It would be handy to have some way to adjust the size of smart material. They sometimes have lots of layers and complicated hierarchy. And to change the overall size of the texture it takes lots of effort

  13. Tessellation shader for the viewport

    It's kind of annoying having to export your maps to visualize how your height maps will look with parallax or tessellation, and it'd be amazing to have this kind of feature in the editor like Designer has

  14. Controls over Bitmap Mask

    We should be able to rotate or scale a bitmap mask. Currently, they have no control at all, and may end up wrong, which mean going back in Photoshop to fix them.

  15. External References for Base maps to decrease filesize

    With 4k texturing the file size increases rapidly to 1GB. Saving multiple versions uses unnecessary disk space because the base maps are saved every time (but remain the same). There really should be an option to link the externally imported or locally baked base maps: NM, Albedo, ColorID ZDepth, AO on the disk. This does not have to be the default setting, and may even include a warning. But the option should be there if you know what you are doing!

  16. Designer/Photoshop Style Overlay Layer Blending (sRGB)

    By default, Painter's overlay layer blending mode uses linear computation. Having an option to use sRGB Overlay, like that found in Designer and Photoshop would be of great help to those of us trying to work on stylized textures in Painter due to the unique way it blends.

  17. Remember last Brush settings for each layer!

    It would be very handy, if Substance Painter could remember the last brush settings for each layer. If you work on different paint layers and you are going back and forth, it takes a lot of time to change the brush settings for every layer over and over again.

    Helpful would be, if there were an option that painter would remember the last brush settings (like alpha, mask, substance / color, height, metallic and roughness values). That would speed up the workflow between different layers.

  18. Improve lazy brush GUI: like zbrush

    The current lazy mouse cursor is a darker grey radial around the brush size. There has no lines or connections from the centre point Until the brush actually draws I'm left guessing where the brush will go.

    Its difficult to guess where the brush will land at the edge of the circle

    Please add a display option similar to the zbrush lazy mouse
